Proper Tyre Maintenance
Tyres
Proper tyre maintenance is essential in ensuring your vehicle is safe to hit the streets. There are four main elements to look at when maintaining your tyres and these can be thought of as the PART rule – Pressure, Alignment, Rotation and Tread.
If this seems a little overwhelming for you, don’t worry, we deal with tyres daily and can make sure yours pass the test.
To keep your tyres maintained properly, they do need to have their pressure checked and adjusted, and normally at this time you’ll also get the tread looked at too. We do this in a regular service inspection.
Proper tyre maintenance is vital to help prolong the life of your tyres and help with vehicle handling and fuel economy. Incorrect pressure of poor wheel alignment can reduce tyre life dramatically. We rotate wheels as part of our maintenance service and also check tyre wear and pressures.

Wheel alignment
It is important to regularly rotate and balance wheels, carrying out wheel alignments to prolong the life of your tyres. Call on our mechanics to help arrange any wheel alignments for your vehicle so they are straightened out and put in perfect operating mode.
Maintenance tips for prolonging tyre life
There are some simple tyre maintenance checks that you can do on your own to quickly make sure your tyres are roadworthy.
Firstly, you can check your tyre air pressure by taking it to the service station about once a month and using the pressure gauge. Try not to drive the car much beforehand because you can often get an inaccurate reading if your tyres are warm, as the pressure is increased with heat. Your vehicle should have a tyre placard displaying the recommended cold inflation pressure. If you find your tyres are repeatedly becoming deflated, take you vehicle to your mechanic immediately.
Secondly, check your tyre thread at regular intervals. Your tyre should have even wear across the entire surface and a minimum of 1.5mm of tread depth (down to the wear indicators) As tyres get more worn they lose the ability todisplace water and may cause you to aquaplane in the wet. If your tyres are wearing unevenly get it checked out as soon as possible to avoid ruining your tyres.
